Project Overview
Some renovations are cosmetic. This one was a complete transformation — a pre-earthquake Bryndwr home taken from tired to exceptional, rebuilt to a new-home standard without losing the character of the street it sits on.
The project
This was a full renovation that touched every part of the home. The clients wanted the finish and feel of a brand-new house — without building one. What they got was better: a home with bones, in a location they loved, brought fully up to the standard of anything being built in Christchurch today.
Highlights included a bespoke Millbrook kitchen with full joinery throughout, and beautifully tiled bathrooms and showers — every surface, fitting, and fixture refreshed.
The challenge
Pre-earthquake Christchurch homes carry a well-known set of hidden complexities. Walls that aren't plumb. Floors that aren't level. Substandard building practice that was accepted at the time but falls well short of what we'd consider acceptable now.
Getting a renovation like this right means being honest about what's behind the walls before a price is locked in — and having the skill to work with imperfect structure rather than simply covering it up. Every room was squared, straightened, and built to a standard the home had never seen.
The result
A home that looks and lives like a new build — with the warmth and solidity that only comes from a house that's been properly built twice.
