Project Overview

There are a handful of locations in Christchurch that genuinely stop you. Scarborough is one of them. When you're renovating a home with views like these, the interior has to earn its place alongside what's outside the window.

The project

This was a complete renovation for a couple who wanted to spend the next chapter of their lives in Christchurch's most coveted location — and wanted the inside of their home to match.

The brief was full design and layout — not just updating what was there, but rethinking how the home lived. Spotted gum timber ceilings, schist stone feature walls, and an infinity pool that frames the full sweep of Scarborough beach and the estuary beyond. A kitchen and bathrooms finished to a standard that would sit comfortably in any architectural new build. Every material chosen with care, every detail built to last.

The challenge

Like many of Christchurch's older character homes, this one came with the familiar pre-earthquake realities: walls that weren't plumb, levels that weren't level, and building practice from another era. Working with these homes requires patience, precision, and a genuine commitment to doing it properly rather than hiding the problems.

Every room was corrected and rebuilt to current standards before the premium finishes went in. That's what makes the difference between a renovation that looks good on handover day and one that still looks good in twenty years.

The result

A home that finally does justice to one of the best addresses in Christchurch — exactly what this next chapter deserved.
